Bay-Tech Industries and Kubota Engines: Supporting Commercial Diving Where Failure Is Not an Option

About Bay-Tech Industries, Inc.

Bay-Tech Industries, Inc. has built a long-standing reputation supplying equipment for one of the most demanding industrial sectors: commercial diving. For decades, the company has designed and assembled breathing air compressors, hydraulic power units, decompression chambers and related systems that support professional dive operations worldwide.

In this environment, equipment performance carries real consequences. Downtime can halt an entire operation, while inconsistent output can affect safety and productivity. Dive teams working offshore or along coastlines depend on Bay-Tech equipment to perform predictably under pressure. That reality drives every engineering decision Bay-Tech makes, including the engines that power its systems.

The Challenge

Bay-Tech equipment is designed to operate continuously under load in harsh conditions defined by saltwater exposure, vibration and temperature variation. Breathing air compressors must deliver consistent output throughout extended dive operations. Hydraulic power units are relied upon to drive tools and support systems without interruption, often at remote jobsites with limited access to service support.

At the center of each system is the engine, powering compressors, hydraulic pumps and auxiliary components divers rely on throughout the day. Bay-Tech needed an engine compact enough for skid-mounted packages, durable enough for demanding environments, and dependable enough to minimize maintenance in the field. Many engines evaluated either required excessive upkeep or failed to hold up under real-world use.

“As president, I had to make sure we were choosing an engine that would not become the weak link in our equipment,” said Karl Miller, Sr., President of Bay-Tech Industries, Inc. “Our customers don’t have room for surprises once they’re on site.”

Why Kubota

Kubota engines stood out to Bay-Tech for their power-to-size balance, durability and flexibility across a range of commercial diving applications. The engines delivered consistent output while maintaining compact footprints, allowing Bay-Tech to standardize designs without sacrificing performance or service access.

Today, Bay-Tech uses several Kubota engines across its product lineup to support varying system sizes and operating demands.

The Kubota D905 is used in smaller breathing air compressor packages and auxiliary units, where compact packaging and steady continuous-duty operation are critical.

The Kubota D1105 supports larger breathing air compressors and hydraulic power units that require additional torque and stable load response, allowing Bay-Tech to scale performance while maintaining common system layouts.

For higher-demand applications, Bay-Tech relies on the Kubota D1703 in heavy-duty hydraulic and multifunction compressor platforms. Its durable construction and thermal capacity support prolonged operation in harsh saltwater-exposed environments.

Integration Made Easy

Across these applications, Kubota engines enable Bay-Tech to apply a consistent power architecture, improving design repeatability and long-term serviceability across both sales and rental fleets.

“Once we committed to Kubota, we designed our systems around the engine, and that changed how efficiently we could build,” Miller said.

With defined engine footprints and performance profiles, Bay-Tech established repeatable integration practices for both new equipment builds and rental fleet units. Standardized layouts reduced design variability, supported predictable production flow, and simplified future updates without disrupting existing platforms.

Performance That Stands Out

In daily operation, Kubota-powered Bay-Tech equipment delivers dependable performance that shows up in reduced downtime and fewer service interruptions. That reliability translates directly to productivity in the field. “We’ve seen a measurable reduction in downtime and maintenance costs, and our customers recognize the difference quickly,” Miller said.

A Partnership That Makes the Difference

While engine performance is critical, Bay-Tech places equal value on long-term partnership. Gulf Engine has supported Bay-Tech with Kubota engine sales and technical guidance for more than 20 years, providing continuity as products, regulations and customer needs have evolved.

Early involvement, clear communication, and a strong understanding of Bay-Tech’s applications have made Gulf Engine a trusted partner rather than a transactional supplier. That continuity helps Bay-Tech plan ahead, maintain parts availability, and respond quickly when challenges arise.

Looking Ahead

Bay-Tech plans to continue using Kubota engines across future equipment platforms, confident in both the engine performance and the distributor partnership behind them. While increased electronics on newer Tier 4 platforms present challenges in saltwater environments, the company views those challenges as manageable with the right support in place.

With proven field performance and long-standing relationships built on trust, Bay-Tech sees Kubota engines as a foundation for delivering equipment its customers can rely on, dive after dive.
