Founded by truckers, Green APU manufactures diesel-powered auxiliary power units designed around the everyday needs of fleets and owner-operators. The family-owned company uses real-world trucking experience to develop reliable, efficient and serviceable solutions for life on the road.
Green APU systems provide heating, air conditioning and electrical power to a semi-truck’s cab while the main engine is turned off. This helps reduce unnecessary idling, conserve fuel and limit wear on the truck’s primary engine while keeping drivers comfortable.
Meeting the Challenge
Before developing Green APU, the company’s founders operated a trucking fleet and used several different auxiliary power units. That firsthand experience helped them identify opportunities to create a system that could better meet the practical needs of drivers and fleet owners.
“We used to have a trucking company, and for many years we were using different APUs in our fleet,” said Greg Ciszek, general manager at Green APU. “We were always trying to be efficient, and we started creating our own APU because we thought we could build something better.”
To bring that product to market, Green APU needed an engine that could provide dependable power while operating quietly and efficiently for extended periods. Parts availability and responsive support were equally important for helping customers minimize downtime while away from home.
Why Kubota Engines
Green APU found its engine solution in the three-cylinder Kubota D902-E, which powers the company’s fifth-generation Star Edition auxiliary power unit. The engine provides the performance needed to support the system’s heating, cooling and electrical functions while offering a compact design suited for installation on a semi-truck.
Part of Kubota’s Super Mini Series, the D902 combines compact packaging, low operating noise and dependable performance. These qualities align with Green APU’s goal of providing reliable engine-off comfort for drivers operating in demanding environments across North America.

Designed for the Demands of the Road
The Green APU Star Edition is a fifth-generation diesel auxiliary power unit built and assembled in the United States. Powered by the Kubota D902-E, the approximately 350-pound unit delivers 26,000 BTU of heating and cooling for fleets and owner-operators.
The Star Edition also features an all-aluminum, rust-free casing, a single serpentine belt and built-in battery monitoring. It is engineered around standardized automotive components available through NAPA stores nationwide, making it easier for qualified diesel mechanics to service the unit while drivers are on the road.
Green APU systems have been field-tested in demanding environments across North America, providing dependable heating, cooling and electrical power without requiring the truck’s main engine to idle.
“Green APU is a great product, and without a great engine, it wouldn’t be worth a penny,” Ciszek said. “We want to make sure that every single aspect of our production is going to be at the top level, especially the engines from Kubota.”
Strengthening Partnerships
Green APU’s collaboration with Engine Power Inc., an authorized Kubota engine distributor, has supported the product from engine selection and development through ongoing customer service.
“They chose a larger engine to run it quieter, slower and with more power,” said John Longeville, OEM regional sales manager at Engine Power Inc.
Engine Power Inc. provides engineering, sales and parts support while also helping coordinate specialized testing, application requirements and direct assistance from Kubota when needed. This support helps Green APU address technical needs and continue serving customers throughout the life of the product.
For Green APU, this combination of Kubota engine performance and responsive distributor support helps reduce downtime and avoid wasting valuable time for drivers and fleet owners.
