Hytec Equipment Company (Hytec by MEYER) is based in Grand Junction, Colorado, and manufactures mobile hydraulic closing units for the oilfield, as well as equipment that needs dependable power in demanding conditions and fast-moving operations.
For Hytec, engine selection is often influenced by the end user’s requirements. But when it comes to specifying an engine that fits their platform and delivers consistent performance, Hytec has identified a clear fit: Kubota’s OC95 diesel engine in the OC Series.

Hytec’s reality is common in oilfield equipment: Engine choices are usually set by the customer purchasing the unit. That makes reliability and fit even more important. When an engine is specified, it must perform and be supported in the field.
When asked what led Hytec to choose Kubota engines, Operations Manager Lonny Rushton gave a straightforward answer: reliability.
Hytec highlighted two key reasons Kubota stood out during selection:
As Rushton explains, “We have been able to run bigger gear pumps because of the torque on the OC95.” That added torque capability gives Hytec more flexibility in how they configure performance and more ways to meet customer needs.

Hytec also noted that incorporating the OC95 into their build process was smooth, especially where controls and automation matter.
“We run an autostart system, and it was extremely easy to adapt to this engine,” Rushton says.
That kind of integration simplicity helps maintain build consistency while supporting the real-world requirements of oilfield customers.
When asked to rate reliability and durability in the OC Series diesel engines, Rushton’s feedback was clear: very reliable.
But performance is only part of the equation. Just as important is access to support in the field and Hytec points to their authorized Kubota distributor, Anderson Industrial Engines (AIE), as a key part of that experience. Rushton describes AIE as very helpful and says the relationship is great, with a major advantage being that it’s easy to get parts and engines.
Hytec also noted strong OEM support from Kubota, helping ensure technical assistance and customer service are there when needed.
For Hytec, the real impact of choosing Kubota shows up in day-to-day capability. With the Kubota OC95 engine in their closing units, the team has gained more flexibility in how they configure and deliver performance, as Rushton shares.
The value they point to is practical and tangible: stronger performance possibilities for the build, equipment their customers can work on without hassle and dependable support behind the engine.
Hytec’s plan is simple: Keep building with Kubota and keep building with the OC95. Rushton notes that the OC95 fits perfectly for what they need it to do, making it the right match for their application today and a dependable choice for future units.
