As LeeBoy expanded its equipment lineup to meet the needs of heavy-commercial and main-line contractors, the company needed an engine solution that could provide greater power and torque while supporting customers in the field. When selecting an engine for the 8680 Asphalt Paver, LeeBoy needed a solution that could provide the power and torque required for a larger machine while also helping customers minimize downtime. Access to dependable engine support, even in remote locations, was equally important.
“The reason I think LeeBoy and Kubota work so well together is Kubota’s service dealer network,” said Chris Broome, Senior Project Manager at LeeBoy. “We don’t have any issues, no matter how remote a customer might be, getting the engine support that our customers need so they don’t experience much downtime.”

Proven performance
LeeBoy has a long-standing history with Kubota, making the company a natural choice when LeeBoy needed a higher-horsepower engine for its largest tracked asphalt paver.
“The V5009 engine was selected for the 8680 because of the class that it’s entering,” Broome said. “We wanted to make sure that when we built this larger tractor, a machine that’s going to weigh well over 30,000 pounds with the screed, we didn’t run into any issues with a lack of power.”
The Kubota V5009 delivers 210.9 horsepower at 2,200 rpm and up to 651.3 lb-ft of torque. Its compact, 4-cylinder design provides the power density needed to support the 8680’s high-production capabilities while maintaining a maneuverable footprint.
Powering the 8680 Asphalt Paver
The LeeBoy 8680 Asphalt Paver is designed to meet the needs of heavy-commercial and main-line contractors. Depending on the screed configuration, the machine weighs between 33,600 and 36,000 pounds and supports paving widths of up to 15 feet, 6 inches.
Powered by the Kubota V5009, the 8680 has the performance needed to move material efficiently through the machine as production demands increase.
“It has the torque to put the material through the machine that we need,” Broome said.
