Doing more with less. That is what has always driven innovation. How can I achieve more with fewer inputs, less time and better technology?
As society has grown, so has the demand placed on industries like construction, industrial and agriculture to increase efficiency and, more recently, sustainability. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) must strike a balance between productivity and the basic components needed for machine operation. To this end, these organizations are turning to their manufacturing and distribution partners. Give us more power but from a smaller, more compact engine. Ensure compliance with the strictest emission and sustainability regulations. Make it easy to integrate into our design and easy for technicians and end users to service. Provide dependable service for the life of the engine.
To answer these complex demands, Kubota developed the V5009.
Compact yet powerful
The V5009 offers the best of both worlds. A compact 4-cylinder, 5-liter diesel engine with the power output of a 6-cylinder model – 210.9 HP at 2200 RPM. By leveraging advanced technologies such as the variable geometry turbocharger (VGT), the V5009 engine ensures a higher intake boost at lower RPMs, minimizing turbo lag and enhancing torque delivery. This type of versatility is ideal for excavators, loaders, cranes, self-propelled agricultural sprayers, tree chippers, larger utility vehicles, pumps and maintenance equipment, as well as other paving, construction and agricultural machines that require both power and efficiency.
By utilizing a downsized engine, OEMs can design more compact machinery without sacrificing power. This allows for greater versatility in equipment design and easier tailoring to specific customer needs. Additionally, the compact design reduces overall space and weight requirements, giving OEMs more flexibility to include more advanced, cost-effective equipment that meets the evolving demands of their customers and the wider market. It can also reduce transport weight for efficient travel from assembly to retail to final destination and customers’ use.
Efficiency and sustainability
For Earth, For Life. Those aren’t just idle words for Kubota. Our commitment to better sustainability and efficiency is reflected in every engine we manufacture. We’re dedicated to developing engines that are not only powerful but also fuel efficient, continuously improving our engines to meet customer demands while also considering the impact on the environment.
The V5009 is no different. The compact design not only reduces overall weight but is also more efficient than a 6-cylinder engine. Using enhanced combustion technology, the V5009 improves fuel efficiency and reduces emissions. For OEMs looking to meet increasing fuel economy standards while providing robust performance, this is a crucial element for machine success.
Additionally, regulatory agencies and end users themselves continue to increase demand for lower emission machines. Kubota is carefully monitoring regulations around the globe to ensure our engines meet, and often exceed, requirements for areas of operation with even the most stringent environmental regulations. This includes emission control systems for the V5009 that meet EPA/CARB Tier 4 and Stage V while also offering the ability to run alternative fuels like biodiesel and renewable diesel for added fueling flexibility.
Dependable service solutions
This forward thinking and attention to detail are what make Kubota a preferred partner for many OEMs. We collaborate closely with customers, approaching each project as a unique opportunity to meet specific needs. Seamless integration and easy maintenance on the OEM assembly line, on the lot or on the job are always top of the list.
To this end, the V5009 is designed for longer maintenance intervals than previous models and optimized application versatility. We also looked for ways to make serviceability easier. The V5009 features several zero-maintenance features that cut down on routine maintenance needs. This includes hydraulic lash adjusters, automatic belt tensioner and a seamless DPF regen system that engages automatically even at low temps and low RPM. Additionally, filters, valves and other maintenance points are all on the same side of the engine and easily accessible. We also offer a growing library of standard option scheme (SOS) options and accessories.
