Biodiesel Fuel
- Biodiesel is acceptable in blends of B5, containing 5% or less (for U.S.) or B7, containing 7% or less (for Europe) and follow engine maintenance intervals for fuel filters, hoses, clamps that is half the normal interval when biodiesel is used – use only fuels that are used to produce final blends of B5 or B7 (including B100 blendstock and ULSD mineral diesel) that conform to EN12214 and updated EN590 (Europe) as well as ASTM D975 & D6751 (U.S.) standards.
- BQ9000 ASTM D-6571 rated bio-fuels are produced by bio-fuel producers in accordance with the biodiesel industry’s recognized standard “BQ9000,” a voluntary accreditation process for producers.
- Biodiesel fuels that are not BQ9000 rated or quality controlled can be of unknown quality and may lead to poor engine running or fuel system and aftertreatment damage – Kubota does not officially endorse any specific biodiesel other than blend percentage but must point out the importance of fuel quality since biodiesel is relatively unregulated.
- Kubota has designed and tested its engines on 100% ULSD diesel to meet EPA regulations; currently, there is no set biofuel percentage volume requirement from the EPA or harmonization of regulations from state to state – use of biodiesel in percentages greater than recommended by Kubota can result in performance issues or increased emissions (e.g., higher NOx output) for which Kubota is not responsible.
Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel Fuel
- T4 Common Rail (CR) engines equipped with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and Exhaust Aftertreatment such as Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) and Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) are designed to run on Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel containing less than 15 ppm sulfur.
- Use Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel (ULSD) fuel that meets EN590 or ASTM D975 such as: No. 2-D, S15 or No.1-D S15
- Do not use fuels with a sulfur content greater than 15 ppm (0.0015% wt.).
- Running a T4 CR engine on fuels that contain sulfur greater than 15 ppm will result in damage to or plugging of the aftertreatment system.
- Cetane Rating: The minimum recommended fuel cetane rating is 45. A cetane rating greater than 50 is preferred, especially for ambient temperatures below -20 °C (-4 °F) or elevations above 1500 m (4921 ft.).
