Kubota’s WG Series engines are trusted across industrial applications for their reliable spark-ignited performance and long service life. Designed to support OEMs building hardworking compact equipment, the WG972-M continues that legacy by combining durability, fuel flexibility and simplified integration to help manufacturers reduce development effort while delivering dependable power.

Proven WG Series Design

Engines in material handling equipment, aerial lifts, turf and utility machines, and other compact industrial machinery operate under continuous load and demanding duty cycles. To perform reliably in these environments, OEMs need power solutions that deliver durability, fuel flexibility and simplified integration without adding design complexity.

The WG972-M builds on the proven WG Series platform with design features focused on long-term performance and global viability, including:

  • Cast-iron tunnel block designed for extended service life
  • Gear-driven operation that eliminates timing belts
  • Reinforced internal components engineered for industrial duty
  • Three-way catalyst supporting emissions compliance
  • EPA Phase 3 and CARB Phase 4 compliance, with EU Stage V readiness

These features help OEMs reduce downtime risk, minimize redesign as regulations evolve, and confidently deploy equipment across global markets.

Compact Power With Fuel Flexibility

Rated at 22.2 kW (29.8 HP) Gasoline, Net Output, the WG972-M delivers strong power density in a compact package that supports a range of spark-ignited fueling options. DI Direct port injection allows for precise fuel delivery and consistent performance, helping OEMs meet efficiency and emissions goals across varying applications.

This flexibility allows manufacturers to adapt equipment platforms to different market needs without extensive design changes, simplifying product planning and expanding application reach.

Simplified Integration for OEMs

Reducing installation effort and shortening development timelines are critical priorities for OEMs designing compact industrial equipment. To support this, the WG972-M features a block-mounted ECU that simplifies system layout, along with a manifold-mounted fuse box that improves access and serviceability. CAN bus capability enables seamless communication with machine control systems, while minimized wiring and the elimination of intermediate harnesses support a true plug-and-play installation approach.

The WG972-M also shares a common mounting footprint with Kubota’s D902 diesel engine. This allows OEMs to design a single machine platform that supports both spark-ignited and diesel power, reducing engineering effort while increasing flexibility across product lines.

Powering What’s Next

Built on the proven WG Series foundation, the WG972-M brings together durability, integration efficiency and emissions readiness to support modern equipment design. By enabling OEMs to streamline development, adapt to evolving regulations and maintain fuel flexibility, Kubota continues to deliver engine solutions designed for long-term success.
